USES AND GRATIFICATIONS OF VIDEO GAMES

Blumer and Katz created a theory that people watch and play video games because of four reasons. The explained that people watch and play video games to escape from their real life and want to ignore what is happening, the people want to learn and see what is happening in other places, people may watch or play video games so they can talk to other people about what happened and also people may want to compare their own lives to characters in the video game.

People may play the Lego movie video game because they are upset with troubles in life and want to escape them. These people may choose the Lego movie video game because it has lots of humor and makes people feel happy. Whilst evil is occurring the characters in the game still make jokes so the game is enjoyable. The Lego movie video game is good for this because it is very different to the real world mainly because of the whole world being made of Lego and because of the bright sparks of magic flying everywhere.

Other people may play the Lego movie video game to make friendships in the real world and to talk to people about what happened. Many people will play a video game and then speak to people in the real world about what happened. This is called the water cooler effect and it helps many people to make friends and can form a community. If something exciting happens and causes a big reaction many people will want to talk to other people about this event and in the Lego movie they add humor and exciting events to cause this to happen and want to play more.

MOJO BOWIE COVER

In the Mojo magazine it is obvious from the first look at it that David Bowie is the center of visual interest. This is very obvious because we see the feature article photo in the middle of the screen who is David Bowie so that everyone seeing the article for the first time knows its about David Bowie.

Also In the Mojo magazine we see the Masthead of the magazine, the mast head is put behind the center of visual interest however we can still see it and is always the same so everybody who looks at the magazine will see the recognizable logo and maybe buy it. This is a very effective way of making people recognize the magazine because they will not concentrate on it but after seeing it they will recognize it.

The strap line at the top of this magazine is very good because it is normally one of the first things people read and can promote a second story and make it seem very exciting without making it the center of visual interest. In this Mojo magazine it also includes a photo with the strap line, this is because it can promote another person with a photo as well and still be what people look at when they see the magazine.
